12 Ways to Incorporate Rainbows in Your Wedding

By Rebecca Padgett-Frett

We at Northwest Florida Weddings Magazine believe that the rainbow is such a beautiful and symbolic reflection of our LGBTQ+ community. Whether subtly or as a complete theme, there are a multitude of ways to include rainbows within your wedding day.

1. Bouquets

Hold a bouquet filled with rainbow blooms or have your bridal party hold bouquets that reflect the colors of the rainbow.

2. Invitations

These could include a bevy of beautiful colored paper, a rainbow font or incorporating a rainbow symbol.

3. Outfits

Ditch the traditional white dress and black suit for rainbow wear. I envision a full skirt with colored layers or a tux in bold colors. Or put on a rainbow jacket over your traditional wedding wear. Alternate the colors your bridal party wears for a rainbow surrounding you at the altar.

4. Accessories

If an entire outfit is too bold for you, consider accessorizing, which could include a rainbow hairpiece, rainbow nails, rainbow shoes or rainbow-inspired makeup.

5. Backdrop

A colorful floral archway, different color garlands, colored wooden panels, streamers, balloons and more.

6. Smoke Bombs

The photos will be absolutely stunning!

7. Balloons

These make for a cute prop for photos as a couple, the bridal party or attendees. They can also be given as wedding favors. Another fun idea is to take colored balloons or lanterns, tie messages to them and release them at the end of the night.

8. Tablescapes

More colorful florals, rainbow-hued glassware, rainbow placards, the list goes on and on for creating a colorful tablescape.

9. Desserts

Have your baker bake a cake with colored layers. For smaller desserts, consider colorful cupcakes, macaroons or cookies. Rainbow sprinkles undoubtedly make anything and everything better. How about a candy bar featuring Skittles, M&M’s, Starburst, Jolly Ranchers and all the brightly hued candy galore.

10. Confetti

To be thrown at the happy couple during a photo opp!

11. Songs About Rainbows

The list includes but is not limited to:

She’s a Rainbow by The Rolling Stones

Pocketful of Rainbows by Elvis Presley

Rainbow by Sia

Rainbowland by Miley Cyrus

Rainbow Connection originally by Kermit the Frog, but there are many other renditions, including my preferred by Willie Nelson

Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland

Rainbow by Ke$ha

and my personal favorite Rainbow by Kacey Musgraves.

12. Cocktails

Taste the rainbow! Work alongside your bartender to concoct some colorful cocktails.
